Organized jointly with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers /Power and Energy Society (IEEE/PES), the Electrical Engineering Department held a major event at the Petroleum Institute (PI) in celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the IEEE/PES. The event included the fall 2009 IEEE/PES Executive Committee meeting, held for the first time outside North America, as well as technical tutorials, and seminars on women in engineering by Distinguished IEEE/PES Lecturers. Dr. Majid Poshtan, Assistant Professor, the Electrical Engineering Department, and Mr. Mohamed Ghazi, a PI-EE graduate, were recognized by the EE Department for receiving the 2009 ADCO Paper Award for their paper on “Intelligent Distributed Autonomous Electric Energy System for UAE”.

The EE Department has established new labs for research and teaching. These are the Power Electronics/Power Quality/Electric Drives lab, the High Voltage Lab, and the Real-time Power System Simulator Lab. |
